He was born to an unwed mother and given up for adoption at birth.
Steve Jobs grew up in a modest home with loving adoptive parents who werenât wealthy. His father, a machinist, taught him how to build things with his hands. At 17, Steve dropped out of Reed College after just six months because he didnât want his parents to spend their life savings on a degree he didnât value.

But he didnât stop learning. He slept on friendsâ floors and sat in on calligraphy classes â lessons that would later shape the beautiful fonts and elegant design of every Apple product.
At 21, Steve and his best friend Steve Wozniak started Apple in his parentsâ garage. They built the first Apple I and changed computing forever. By 25, Steve was a millionaire.
Then came the greatest fall of his life.
In 1985, Steve was fired from the very company he co-founded. Devastated, he said it was one of the most painful things that ever happened to him.

But he didnât give up.
He founded NeXT and bought a small animation studio called Pixar. Years later, Pixar created Toy Story, and Steve became a billionaire when Disney bought it. Meanwhile, Apple was struggling badly. In 1997, they brought Steve back.
What happened next is history.
Under Steveâs leadership, Apple launched the iMac, iPod, iPhone, and iPad â products that revolutionized entire industries. He turned a near-bankrupt company into the most valuable brand in the world.
In his famous 2005 Stanford commencement speech, Steve shared these powerful words:
âYou canât connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. Stay Hungry. Stay Foolish.â
